Endometriosis Awareness Month 2013

This is my morning, my day begins: rise up now, rise up, great noontide!
Thus spoke Zarathustra and left his cave, glowing and strong, like a morning sun emerging from behind dark mountains
-          Friedrich Nietzsche

It’s the 1st of March again and that has very special meaning for me in several different ways. Firstly, it marks the start of endometriosis awareness month, and like last year, I will be doing a series of blog posts throughout the month to highlight as much endometriosis research as possible.

Secondly, the first day of March is St David’s Day, the national day of my home country, Wales. So I’m feeling all patriotic. Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus!

Our flag has a giant, fire breathing red dragon on it, which is awesome

Thirdly, I received some very good news today; I’ve just been accepted to start a PhD studying endometriosis. I’ll have more details to follow soon but the next four years of my life will be dedicated to studying endometriosis full-time and in greater depth than ever before – it will be hard, it will be exhausting, it will be filled with ups and downs, but I can’t wait!

So in the spirit of getting on with endometriosis awareness month 2013, I’d like to start by promoting the brightest star of endometriosis awareness in Brazil; Caroline Salazar.
She has the best blog in Brazil, not just the best endometriosis blog, but the best blog full stop (and I’m not just saying that, she has received the Top Blog Brazil 2012 award to prove it). You can visit her blog here in its native Portuguese or Google does a passable job of translating it to English here.

Caroline is at the forefront of promoting endometriosis awareness in Brazil and this is important because Brazil, as you may recall from a post last year, is one of promising new faces of endometriosis research on the global scene. Caroline’s blog often has links to petitions you can contribute to that will benefit endometriosis awareness, so I would definitely recommend having a look at her blog and seeing how you can help promote endometriosis awareness around the world.
